They said it was a dangerous place, they said no one ever goes there, they said it laid beneath the hills, the hills of Western Virginia. The Virginia of the virgin girl, the virgin girl of the Mountain State.
” What were you reading you asshole!” Catherine shouted.
” Just a poem!” Paul respond.
” By whom?”
” It was written by…am… Sorry there’s no name here, I just saw it around the bushes and so I picked it up.”
” You are really an asshole.”
” Yea first class asshole.”
” How can you carry a diary just like that?”
” I only stopped to pass out some urine, there I saw it. Perhaps I might see the owner before we reach the mountain state.
” We are already in the Mountain state.” Jack said turning the stirring.
” Watch out!” Paul shouted. Before Jack can make any move the car had already went into the bushes. There was a deadly race before the car stopped on its own. They came out coughing for some minutes.
” Where are we?” Elisha exclaimed.
” Don’t know.” Raymond said rolling his eyes. ” Maybe some bad places.”
” Alright guys let’s check it out, perhaps we can find some shelter here before tomorrow morning. It seemed like the sun is about to set. And you know to repair this car will not be that easy. So it’s better to find a place to chill the night a bit.” Jack said moving forward.
” Where are you going?” Elisha said in worry.
” Follow me if you can.” Jack respond.
” Okay before we get to that let’s see what we can do here.” Paul said starting the car and luckily he did it. ” Alright guys, get in now.” Quickly they moved into the car. Paul pulled the car in speed but unfortunately it moved to other direction, he tried the best he can to get it in control but the thing was beyond his power. The car stopped after it collided with a tree. They came out weakly gasping with difficulty.
” Where are we again?” Elisha asked.
” Some bad places.” Raymond respond. They looked through where they found themselves. It was a mountainous region with a little grasses at some point. They never made it there and they never heard about this place, though this was their first journey into the Mountain State. The place was quiet and horrible as well, there was no sign of man nor animal. Even birds don’t usually often pass through. They evenly looked through for a while casting their eyes upon the big hills.
” This place seemed odd.” Elisha said taking some step forward.
” Of course it do.” Said Catherine.
” Come and give me hand here.” Jack grabbed Paul, they went to the car to see if they can start it again. They spent thirty minutes but the car showed no indication of starting.
” I have an idea, guess we should call Henry. If he is there he can take us with him to spent the night huh!” Raymond delivering his thought.
” You are right man.” Jack said dialling the number. ” Oh shit it was switch off.”
” What of Alice, call her let’s hear about it.” Raymond said again.
” Today was a bad day, she’s switch off too.” Jack said in sorrow.
” So what are we going to do here?” Catherine asked.
” Bite your ass.” Raymond said in joke.
” Fuck you Raymond!”
” Thanks a lot.”
” Hi guys, let’s stop the joke. As you can see there is a pathway here that can lead us to some places if we follow it, so why should we not try it.” Jack said showing them the way.
” They said it was a dangerous place, they said no one ever goes there, are you not sure we are the first to move up there.” Paul said looking at them.
” What do you mean?” Jack asked as he took his eyes upon the Paul’s diary.
” It was just a poem, but if you understand it clearly you will find out that there is something special about it. Something it described about this very place we stood upon.” Paul answered.
” Paul you are just an asshole.” Catherine whispered.
” Yea first class asshole, but you have to know that this is reality not a joke you bitch.” Paul exclaimed in anxiety.
” Okay what is your suggestion?” Raymond asked in hum voice.
” My suggestion was that we should not follow this pathway, we are supposed to go back to the main road perhaps we might get help there.”
” No, we are not going back, we are moving our own way and you can also move your own way.” Jack said moving to the pathway followed by the others.
” Hi, I am sorry about that, let’s do what he said you know he was leader.” Elisha said grabbing his hand.
” He is just taking us to a wrong place.” Paul whispered.
” Yea I know but still we have to do what he said.” Elisha said in advice. They followed jack walking for about hour but no resident was found.
” I am tired with this shit.” Raymond said as he glittered his eyes toward the object reflected by his torchlight. ” Yes we did it.” He shouted running to the far house he sighted. They all smiled happily as seeing their difficulty has end here. They broke into the storey building pleasantly looking all angles.
” This was cold.” Jack said approaching the dinning table. He sank enjoying a well prepared meal together with his friends. Only Paul dare not to. He brought a biscuit in his pocket to relief the hunger in his tummy.
” Hi dog, do you think that biscuit was good enough to suit your tummy?” Jack said in joke. Paul did not respond. He only pretended as if he never heard what he spoke. Two minutes later, a lady with hat broke into the house clenching a small box. They stopped the eating watching her moving toward them.
” Hi.” She said in grin.
” Hello madam.” They chorus.
” You are here,” She started looking at them one after the other. ” A very good of you to made it here tonight, you…”She poked them.” Okay, and you.” She turned to Paul whose still hanging with his diary. ” Have you not warned them?”
” What do you mean?” Paul asked.
” It was nothing, just know that you broke the rule.” She hit the table in sorrow.
” I am sorry ma. If it was about the food we ate I promised I will pay for it, all we need from you now is to allow us spend the night with you.” Jack said in apology.
” Okay, is that what you want? The house is yours you can stay as long as you want.”
” Thank you ma, thanks a lot.” All of them saying happily except Paul.
“-But mind you.”She interrupted in hollo. ” From now henceforth she can always be around, she can always come.” The lady whispered taking herself upstairs.
” Excuse me ma, I didn’t understand what you are talking about!” Elisha said eagerly.
” You didn’t understand!” She turned back.” Have she not warned you? Have she not warned you?” The lady shouted in grief. Elisha moved back in fear. ” Oh! Sorry dear!” The lady smiled. The hollo of this lady has drew the attention of Jack and his friends, they all stood up looking at her. ” The virgin girl!” She whispered looking at them one after the other.” Okay good night.” She moved upstairs. After the bygone of this lady. They all started to think about her attitude, there was something she was hiding to them but what was it?
” Hi Paul, can I see you diary please?” Elisha sat next to him after she collected the diary. She skimmed it in two minutes and handed it over to him. ” I guess you were right, we are not supposed to come here. They spoke about virgin girl in the poem and also the lady with hat made use of it as her last sentence before she took herself upstairs. So what do you think about it?”
” I have no idea! I am also in puzzled.”Paul respond. There was a minutes silent between them, afterward Raymond came to them with same confusion in his mind.
” Did you hear what she said?” He ceased the diary from Paul, he opened the first page looking at it rapidly. ” Though I am not a poet, I can’t understand this shit.” He threw it back to him.
” We are supposed to have an idea on what is going on here!” Elisha said in advice.
” No matter what we spoke, that bastard is going to convince them, he will never allow us to win over him.”
” So are you insisting that we should stay here and let him get us killed?”
” No, I am insisting that we should move our own way if it is the only thing that can save us.” Paul Said looking at her.
” I will think about it!” She stood up and went to the hallway. Jack on a disco, together with Catherine and Raymond they began to dance. Paul started watching them with relief as the show was erasing some grief in his mind, recalling his old life with his favourite girl Sarah.
” I so much love you.” Sarah said in sexy voice.
” You said you are having field trip tonight huh?” Paul asked.
” Yea, just few days we will come back.”
” But why should it be taken in the night, they are supposed to arranged it during day hours.”
” Don’t worry dear I will come back for you.” It has now been seven years, to date there was no news of Sarah nor her friends and all that went to that field trip. Paul paused the thinking mood after Elisha came back, she joined the party and together they continue the dance with fond.
” Come and joint us sweety.” Catherine shouted shuddering her boobs. Paul do not accept her invitation. He only continue watching the show his eyes blinking sleepy. From there he fell in a condition he never know where he was. He was awaken in the dark. He stood up in fear remembering his last scene about the partying. Nobody was there with him and he got no torchlight, quickly he put his hand in his pocket bringing his phone, he reflected it to the direction a hum was coming from. Dreadfully he moved back as seeing a lady near him, the lady with hat.
” Um.. Sorry.” She said. Light was brought all over again. ” You alone here why all asleep. She said again. ” Okay it wasn’t your fault….. It was her.” She shouted poking him. Paul moved back in fear.
” Am… What are you talking about?” He asked.
” Nothing good.” She respond in grin. The lady took herself upstairs leaving Paul in wonder. Two minutes later, Elisha came to him in agitation.
” Did you hear that?” She asked.
” Hear what?” He respond.
” I just heard a hollo that is why I came to see what happened.”
” Really?” But I heard nothing! Maybe it could be dog huh?”
“No, that was not a dog,…..” She said rolling her eyes, ” Let’s check it out please.” She moved forward. They went to the hallway moving deficiently. ” It might be this room.” She opened the door and broke in, surprisingly they saw Raymond lying on the floor blood all over his body, Catherine whose only wearing pant and bra was holding a knife and looking haggardly.
” Oh no!” She said crying.” I didn’t do it, I swear I didn’t do it.” She released the knife and sank down for a while. She stopped crying looking at them.” You.”She poked them.” I warned you have I not?”She stood up after taking the knife. ” I am back again.” She said walking toward them.
” Catherine are you okay?” Paul said moving back.
” You.” She poked them again. Her eyes turned horrible, the dots inside them disappeared to an extent that you can only see the white reflection coming inside them. She flew kicking Paul aside, Elisha ran to the door but before she approached Catherine has went before her. She started to moved backward in fear as seeing Catherine was approaching. Paul carried a small cupboard, he raised it up and hit it down her heard. The cupboard broke to pieces but Catherine showed no indication that she felt the pain. She blew him in sorrow. Paul stood up again to save Elisha because Catherine was about approaching. Before he make any move Catherine has already stabbed her. Paul screamed and went to her in deep sorrow, unexpectedly she flew into the window and went away. Paul came to Elisha in sympathy. He took her to the bed and later carried Raymond on the bed. He closed the window and moved out to inform Jack about it.
” Are you saying they were both dead?” Jack said in anxiety.
” They are not, I thought they were only unconscious for a little while!” Paul respond. ” Just follow me.” Paul took him to the room where he lay Raymond and Elisha. Jack looked at them a little while before he started.
” Are you saying that Catherine did this?”
” No dear he is lying.” Quickly they turned back seeing Catherine stood before them.
” He did it.” She poked Paul. ” Look at his hands.” Jack stared at him in surprised. He was holding knife. ” That’s the knife he used.” Paul has no idea on what was happening, the knife he was holding, he don’t actually know how it came into his hand.
” This is not Catherine.” Paul said releasing the knife.
” You asshole.” Jack blew him and went to Elisha whose gasping. ” Tell me what happened are you okay?” Elisha did not talk, she was looking weakly, blood coming into her mouth. He turned to Raymond who had now awaken fully.
” You asshole ” He blew Jack aside.” You brought us here, a fucking dangerous place where no one has ever come.” Raymond stood up on his feet after his strength was back again.
” Please tell me who did this?” Jack requested.
” There is no time, we have to leave now.” Raymond respond. Elisha started coughing, within two minutes she came back to her normal senses.
” Where is her?” She asked.
” Who?” They chorus.
” That bitch.” She stood on her feet trembling. ” This is the house they were talking about, the house that laid beneath the hills, the hills of western Virginia.” She concluded.
” That’s what I am expecting but if that’s the case who is the virgin girl they were talking about and where is she?” Paul asked.
” Here she is!” They casted their eyes upon the left angle expecting that the voice was coming from there. It was Catherine grabbing her knife, a drop of blood surrounded the knife was flowing one after the other. ” Do you think you will go free?” Her voice sounded like ten people were talking inside her. ” The warning! Have you not seen it?” And you!” She poked Paul. ” You will pay for it, you will pay for it.” She flew thumping him down the wall. Jack squeezed her neck and propelled her backward. Elisha whose holding pot waste no time in crushing her down.
” I think… There must be something inside her… This is not the Catherine we knew.” Paul said looking at her.
” What do you mean?” Jack asked.
” She is talking abnormally, her voice sounds as if ten people were inside her. And so her eyes, the black dot inside her eyes had vanished.”
” So what do you think had caused this?” Jack asked.
” The virgin girl, the virgin girl inside her must be the causal of all these shits!” Paul concluded.
” I still don’t understand what you are talking about!” Jack said in worry.
” What we need to do now is to find a way in which the virgin girl could free her before she possessed her permanently.” Paul said taking himself upstairs. Two minutes later he came back with the hat lady.
” I told you, I told you she will come yet you didn’t listen.” The lady said in sorrow.
” I am sorry ma, we need your help now no matter what it will cost, I am definitely certain that you must know about this girl, the virgin girl.” Paul requested.
” Yea, it’s a long story. She owned this place, this is her town, the town she was born. Most of them believed she was dead not knowing that the soul inside her still remain…. It was not her ambition to hurt people, but it was her ambition to hurt them especially when they defy her warning.
” But she gave us no warning!” Paul shouted.
” She do!” The lady kept quiet looking at Paul. ” The diary, you found it huh? That was the warning, the first warning. Then she turned to Jack. “The girl, the girl you hit on the road, can you recall it?” That was the second warning. The scene behind the deadly race after your car went out of control do you ever think who was behind it? Yet you didn’t understand…. You didn’t understand what she meant!” The lady shouted.
” How did you know about these?” Elisha asked. The lady didn’t respond. She only stared at her in smiled
” So does this mean she don’t allow anybody here?” Paul asked.
” That is not what should worry you now! What you need to know is how to get out of this place.” The lady said boldly.
” But why is she doing this?” Elisha asked.
” Because you were here.” The lady respond. There was a minutes silent between them, suddenly Catherine broke the silent. She started coughing softly. Quickly she stood up looking at them with her horrible eyes.
” You…ar..are not gg going nowhere!” She said shuddering her body. Abruptly she flew and made her escape through the window laughing giggly.
” Tell us what we can do to have her back.” Paul requested.
” Even though I don’t like it, I don’t like it that way but I had no choice.” She closed her eyes and raised her head upward, she began incantation, in less than three minutes a bird came upon her hand. ” The soul of the virgin girl was divided into two fragment, the first fragment was inside this bird and the second fragment was inside your friend’s body.”
” You mean Catherine?” Elisha asked.
” was that her name?” The lady with hat asked.” Your mission was to restore the second fragment of virgin girl into this bird because that will be the only way that can save your Catherine.”
” And what if we fail?” Elisha asked.
” Your Catherine will be possess permanently and there after she will be attacking you one after the other.” The hat lady respond.
” So how do we do this?” Paul asked.
” There was a bond between this bird and Catherine because they were having same soul. This bird can be able to find Catherine anywhere she goes. Now if I release it, the first thing it will to do was to find Catherine so that their bond can stand still. And you.. All you need to do was to chase it. Do not stop until it stop. And sure it will stop if only it found Catherine. She brought a necklace and handed it to Paul. ” Lay it on Catherine’s neck and pronounce these words.” She wrote the words on paper and gave it to him. ” The moments you pronounced it, the second soul fragment of virgin girl will find its way out of her body and get into this bird and that will be the final.” She released the bird looking at them.” The game start now.” Quickly they made it out running following the bird, when ever they lost it they will only listen to hear its screech. The bird continue flying taking them deep in the hills in a place they never goes before.
” Oh shit! I am tired.” Jack said gasping, he sank down next to Paul.
” I guess we are closer.” Elisha said raising herself upward. ” The bird,” She stood following its screech. Paul go after her leaving Jack and Raymond behind.
” I am tired with this shit!” Raymond said in relief. ” I am going no where.” He said again.
” Ok dude, let’s check it out if we can find something here. My grand ma told me that, diamonds and gold were believe to be found in a place like this.” Jack said after he stood up.
” Really? Okay let’s check it out!” Raymond stood up following Jack who went directly deep in the hills.
” Be careful, this place seemed old. Guess no man ever made it here.” Jack said looking all angles in case of attack.
” Do you think we can find it!” Raymond asked.
” I hoped so.” Jack respond.
” Wow, That’s a cave! Let’s get in buddy!” Raymond said approaching the cave followed by Jack. After they made it into the cave, they walked deep inside reflecting their torchlight all over.
” This cave looked like an old kingdom of prehistory.” Jack said looking at the design on the cave.
” You mean some people live here before?” Raymond asked
” Yea.” Jack respond. ” I found two axes.” He threw the other to Raymond and went to a box.
” What are you doing?” Raymond asked. Jack do not respond. He only used the axe and broke the box apart. Surprisingly it was filled with diamonds.
” Oh no.” He dropped the axe calling the attention of Raymond. Together they started to broke the boxes till they reach the thirties. Abruptly they started to hear a piercing sound deep in the cave. Within the sound started approaching and the cave began to tremble.
” We have to leave this place now.” Raymond said in advice.
” Yes but we are taking these diamonds with us.” Jack said taking some of the boxes, Raymond do the same and together they carried three boxes.
” Let’s move out now.” Jack said running followed by Raymond. The cave continue the tremble and the big rocks started to roll over and over. Raymond started to complain that the load he was carrying was to heavy.
” I am tired man, I can’t stand it anymore.” He said in his weak voice.
” Don’t worry bro, just a minutes to…..” Jack didn’t continue the sentence. He only dropped the boxes gently looking at the figure before him.
” Jack.” Raymond whispered. ” Jack talk to me are you okay?”
” Just keep quiet and drop your load gently!” Jack said in advice. Raymond do what he was asked and stepped forward to see the happening.
” Oh no!” He said moving back gazing at the tortoise like shaped animal with two antenna. This monster was extremely big to an extent that half of the cave was his body. The monster groan looking at them with its red eyes and sharp teeth. A hum sound focus their attention backward where they saw the offsprings of this monster groaning to them.
” Jack… We are dead.”
” Not yet.” The horn of a car made them more confused thinking what the hell was happening, in speed the car parked near them.
” Get in.” Quickly they moved into the car and the driver fire own, at this time the monster and its offspring have started chasing them vigorously. There has been a long race on the hills before they approached a place where the monsters seemed to feared, they started going back rapidly. The driver opened up and came out.
” Wow is that you?” Jack said looking at the hat lady.
” You are trying to get yourself killed!” She said in warning.
” Okay let’s move on.” She said moving forward. They followed one pathway that led them directly into a rocky place where they saw Catherine tightened on rock and Paul pronouncing the words he was asked to. In less than a minutes a smoke came out of her mouth and moved into the bird. Immediately the smoke moved out she return back to her normal senses.
” Hi what is happening?” She asked in surprised.
” You are welcome dear!” Paul said embracing her.
” This is not over, it was the only the beginning, the beginning of game. She will always be there watching you till you become exterminated. Now I want you to leave this place and never come back. Here’s my car.” Paul collected the key. There was a rumbling sound all over and later the rocks started rolling again.
” And what about you?” Paul asked.
” I am already dead.” She said removing her hat laughing giggly. Quickly they moved into car, Paul started the car and fire on heading to pathway that can lead them out. He drove them out of the state and from that day they never come back again.
